Last May, the occupancy rate of Algarve accommodation units reached 64.8%, a value that is above the average of the last 25 years and which, according to the Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises of the Algarve (AHETA), reflects “a recovery of tourist activity in the post-pandemic period”, but still below the same month of 2019.
According to data revealed by the association, the areas that presented, in May, the “best performance” were Vila Real de Stº António/Castro Marim and Portimão/Monchique and Lagos/Sagres, while the worst performances were identified in Tavira, Loulé and Albufeira.
On a “positive note”, AHETA highlights RevPAR, which increased 9.7% in May, while the average price has been rising, reflecting “the brutal price increase of all products and services used by accommodation units”, which has been absorbing the increase in the average price.
In the information sent to the press, AHETA also gives an account of the prospects for the current month of June, which, according to the association, point to “a strong expected rise in Portuguese tourists”, which leads AHETA to predict that, due to the beginning of school holidays and the combination of holidays, this rise “may contribute to a return to normality”.
