Pentecost could be thought of as the final part of the Easter story. Jesus died, rose again, and then appeared to thousands of people. Imagine the sadness if not confusion of His disciples when after all that had happened at Easter, not to mention what they had witnessed firsthand of the ministry of Jesus over three years, now He was leaving them.

But Jesus told them not to be concerned, He was sending them the Holy Spirit. “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

The Bible tells us in Acts chapter two When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Is this relevant for us today? That’s something you have to find out for yourself. At All Saints in Lagoa, we frequently experience the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This is not unique to All Saints; many Christian Churches will be celebrating Pentecost on Sunday. If you are in the Lagoa area, come and be part of the congregation, you will get a warm welcome. If you are not in the area, there will be a Church near you that would be pleased to welcome you and answer any questions you may have. www.allsaintsalgarve.org
