The Penela municipality has opened a public tender for the construction of 18 affordable dwellings, with a basic price of more than 2.8 million euros, tax excluded. Within 450 days, the project will be completed on the land of the Union of Parishes of São Miguel, Santa Eufémia, and Rabaçal, in the district of Coimbra under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).
According to Eduardo Nogueira dos Santos, “Housing is one of the needs identified in our electoral program”. Therefore, the municipality aims to build a total of 72 homes at affordable costs under the Recovery and Resilience Plan. As the mayor added, “Housing is a central point for the social and economic development of the municipality and seeks to respond to the desires of our population, supporting families, but also companies, IPSS, associations and local businesses”.
The Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU) is evaluating two further investments in this field and is “already in the final phase” of signing collaboration agreements with the municipality, the Intermunicipal Community (CIM) of the Coimbra Region, and the IHRU. The goal is to construct 25 dwellings in Espinhal, with a projected value of 3,804,584.31 euros (+ VAT), and five in Penela, with an estimated value of 702,956.22 euros (+ VAT).
In the meantime, the City Council has already signed contracts with CIM and IHRU for further purchase of 12 houses in Penela and 12 houses in Cumeeira.
