According to the study, Auchan is the best Portuguese supermarket in terms of what they offer in vegan products, followed by Continente and Aldi stores, in second and third place respectively.
The association also added in their statement that the “company Jerónimo Martins (Pingo Doce), one of the largest in this sector, refused to participate in this study”.
The RankingVeg project was created by AVP in partnership with the German organisation Albert Schweitzer Foundation, which developed a standardised tool to rank food retailers based on their offer of vegan products.
For the purpose of ranking retailers, the following calculation factors were taken into account: the number of vegan products available, within the relevant categories (eg alternatives to meat, milk, and eggs); and promotional communications made about these products.
“In general, it was possible to verify that the production and marketing of vegan products in Portugal is still in an embryonic state compared to other countries, and there is room for an increase in supply and for an improvement in terms of diversity, quality and price, with a view to meeting the current needs of an increasingly established market niche”, writes APV.
The results of the survey also found that, for the most part (72 percent), consumers of vegan products classify the current offer of this type of products in the Portuguese market as unsatisfactory, and indicate that they would like to see more variety of vegan products on the supermarket shelves.
Surely you must be joking...Celeiro, Bio-Mercado, Go Natural, Miosotis just to name a few...But hey...I guess those other folks are paying you for advertising...Nice Try...

Let's first feed the population properly in terms of quality, quantity, and variety of products and only then worry about the availability of "vegan products" to the privileged! These can certainly find whatever they need in niche shops or even in fair markets available everywhere to all who have enough money!

Vegan food is healthy but you can also lose a lot of weight just by waiting in the queue at Pingo Doce.

All those foods are vastly overpriced here.Look at things like blackberries and raspberries ,they are beyond what most can afford.
What consumers should be extremely worried about is the pesticides that are used systemically.Meaning washing and peeling will do nothing as the chemicals go inside the entire plant.

I have been vegan for nearly two years now and have been pleased to see a greater availability of vegan food products in Portugal, especially in the Continente, where I usually buy my groceries. I had quit eating pizzas because of the cheese and friends in the UK said "why don't you have vegan pizzas?" I answered because they are not available where I live, or if they are I haven't seen them yet. On visiting the UK I found that vegan pizzas were on the menu at many restaurants and pizzerias. And vegan sausage rolls were on sale at Greggs bakery shop. It seemed easier to buy vegan food in Britain at that time so I was very glad to see Portugal catching up. Of course, salad vegetables, fruit, rice, beans, pulses and cereals have been on sale all along. I do find fruit prices expensive here but salads are cheap enough.
