The objective, clarified the same source, was the collection
of evidence from various points in the country, namely documentation, and not
the arrest of any suspect, just two days before the start of the 83rd Volta a
Portugal bike race.
It is recalled that at the end of April, ten W52-FC Porto
cyclists were named as defendants during the Clean Test operation and the
team’s sports director, Nuno Ribeiro and his deputy José Rodrigues, were
arrested.
Despite the suspensions of the vast majority of its
cyclists, the participation of the W52-FC Porto in the Volta a Portugal was
confirmed by Joaquim Gomes, director of the race, but last week the
International Cycling Union (UCI) withdrew its sports license for the team that
has eight cyclists preventively suspended. FC Porto has since suspended the
contract it had with W52.
