"The antiviral Tecovirimat should soon be available in larger quantities in the EU," EMA Executive Director Emer Cooke said at a press conference.
She also called on pharmaceutical companies to contact the EMA to discuss available support for the development of vaccines and treatments for Monkeypox.
The number of confirmed cases of Monkeypox virus infection in Portugal has risen to 871, 25 more than the total recorded last week, the Directorate-General of Health (DGS) announced on Thursday.
"All regions of mainland Portugal and the Autonomous Region of Madeira have reported cases, of which 625 (78.5 percent) in the health region of Lisbon and Tagus Valley," the DGS said in its weekly update on the evolution of the disease in the country.
According to the health authority, until Wednesday, 796 cases were reported in SINAVEmed (National System of Epidemiological Surveillance), most of which belong to the age group between 30 and 39 years (44%).
According to DGS data, 99% of the infections were registered in men (788), with eight cases reported in women.
The Monkeypox virus is transmitted by close physical contact, namely with injuries or body fluids, or by contact with contaminated material, such as sheets, towels or personal utensils.
