Almost a year after
they were chosen by a jury, as part of a call launched by the Portuguese Academy of Cinema, the five films arrive this week on the streaming platform,
being available "worldwide", says Netflix in a statement.
The films chosen are
"A Metamorfose dos Pássaros", by Catarina Vasconcelos, with Joana
Gusmão in the production, "Soa", by Raquel Castro, with a screenplay
by Isabel Machado, production by Joana Ferreira and Sara Simões,
"Mar", by Margarida Gil, with a screenplay by Rita Benis, and
"Simon Chama", by Marta Sousa Ribeiro, and produced by Joana Peralta.
They are joined by
"Desterro", by Portuguese-Brazilian director Maria Clara Escobar.
The initiative of the
Academia Portuguesa de Cinema is intended to give more visibility to Portuguese
women - or those with permanent residence in Portugal - who have been involved
in the production, direction or writing of a screenplay.
According to the
regulation, the partnership provides for the licensing of feature films to the
Netflix platform for a period of one year.
According to the
regulation, the candidates associated with each of the selected films receive
15,000 euros. In case there is more than one candidate per selected film, the
15,000 euros will be shared between all of them.
