The number of unemployment benefit beneficiaries increased in October compared to the same month last year, despite having decreased compared to September, according to official data reported by NM.
The average value of unemployment benefits was 588.79 euros in October.
In that same month there were 133,980 beneficiaries of unemployment benefit, a number that means an increase of almost 10,000 compared to the same month, but a decrease of 5,206 compared to September.
Unemployment benefits were mostly claimed by women (58.6%), corresponding to 99,843 beneficiaries and 70,623 beneficiaries (41.4%).
Taking into account all the various unemployment benefits (unemployment benefit and initial and subsequent social benefit), the number of beneficiaries was 170,446 in October, a decrease of 3.4% compared to September, while, compared to the same period last year , there was an increase of 5.3%.
As for the initial social unemployment benefit, this benefit was processed for 6,085 beneficiaries, a drop of 5.4% overall, but a year-on-year increase of 11.7%. In turn, the subsequent social unemployment benefit covered 22,570 beneficiaries, a decrease of 1.7% compared to September and 11.4% year-on-year.
The number of unemployed people registered in employment centres increased in October for the fourth consecutive month, rising 4.9% year-on-year and 1.1% quarter-on-quarter, to 303,356, according to data released on Monday by the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP).
