The document, according to the municipality of Faro, was prepared with the intention of regulating the activity and avoiding the so-called informal concentrations of these vehicles, which occur throughout the municipality, “bringing some negative effects, namely resulting from the use of vehicles without conditions of habitability and environmental sustainability, which do not guarantee basic hygiene conditions and cause damage, for example, related to basic sanitation; or that do not present security conditions; or even, who remain for long periods in the same places, contributing to the degradation of public facilities”.

According to a report by Publituris, it has now been defined that this activity will have assigned places for its practice. At the moment, in the municipality, there is the Praia de Faro Camping Park, but other spaces may be licensed by the municipality, including service areas for motorhomes (places where vehicles can remain for a maximum of 72 hours, to carry out actions related to their cleaning and maintenance).

Rules of conduct are also established for motorhome owners, as well as for those who oversee the service areas. The existence of an internal regulation in these places is mandatory and they will be subject to supervision by the administrative and police authorities, including the municipality itself, through its competent services and, consequently, to the imposition of fines, in case of non-compliance.

Establishing the main concepts related to this activity, namely what is meant by overnight stay and parking and defining the conditions under which they are allowed, the municipality considers this instrument as fundamental in the management of the territory and in the framework of the activity, above all, considering that this is a practice that represents an important tourism segment and contributes to boosting the local economy, blurring the asymmetries and isolation of the interior.
