In response to questions posed by the Lusa agency via email, the PGR limited itself to confirming the initiation of the investigation, without providing further details.
The accident, which occurred at 4:05 pm on Sunday, during the Beja AirShow festival, at Air Base No. 11 (BA11), involving two aircraft, caused the death of a pilot of Spanish nationality and minor injuries to another of Portuguese nationality.
The 37-year-old pilot who suffered minor injuries was discharged from hospital on Sunday night, a source from the Baixo Alentejo Local Health Unit (ULSBA) revealed to Lusa.
The two pilots belong to the Iberian patrol Yakstars, an aerobatic display team made up of six aircraft, with Portuguese and Spanish pilots.
One of the aircraft from this patrol that participated in the aerial demonstration at the Beja AirShow landed, shortly after the accident, at the Évora Municipal Aerodrome, the director of this infrastructure, Joaquim Piteira, revealed today to Lusa.

“The plane was diverted to Évora, as advised by the Beja [control] tower. It was a safety procedure because he couldn't land right away and then, as the relief operations began, he came here,” he reported.
According to the director of the aerodrome and also the commander of the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Évora, the aircraft is still in that infrastructure this morning.
According to the Air Force, the entity organising the festival, of the two aircraft involved in the accident, one crashed “outside the perimeter of the Air Base and another landed in the unit”.
“These incidents resulted in no victims on land, among the people who were watching the event nearby”, he highlighted.
