“Following the conclusion of the accident relief work” by the authorities “and the confirmation of the track conditions, railway circulation on the Algarve Line was restored”, reveals IP in a statement sent to social media. CP, in turn, reported that circulation resumed at 11:30.
Road traffic had already been restored a little earlier on the road that crosses the Poço Barreto level crossing, located between Alcantarilha and Silves in the municipality of Silves.
The accident, whose alarm was raised at 08:17, caused six injuries, who were transported to Faro Hospital, the two most serious by helicopter.
According to the regional command of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, the six occupants of the damaged seven-seater vehicle were all Dutch nationals, three men and three women, aged between 18 and 25 years.
The two most seriously injured were transported by helicopter and the remaining four by ambulance, all to Faro Hospital.
A GNR source told Lusa that the two people who were transported by helicopter were female and 18 years old.
There were 24 passengers inside the train, who took a bus provided by CP to their destination, according to civil protection.
