“At the end of October 2024, 312,510 unemployed individuals were registered with the employment services of the continent and autonomous regions. The total number of unemployed people registered in the country was higher than that seen in the same month of 2023 (+9,154; +3%), as well as that of the previous month (+1,1716; +0.6%)”, informs the IEFP.
For several consecutive months, the number of unemployed people registered with the IEFP had been falling, but in August there was an increase. In September, registered unemployment fell again, but in October the trend reversed again.
Even so, it is worth noting that not all regions of the country recorded increases in unemployment in October compared to the previous month: in the North, there was a reduction of 1.2% and in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo a decrease of 0.7%.
In annual terms, only the Azores and Madeira escaped increases in the number of unemployed people. In these regions, there was a decrease of 5.7% and 8.4%, respectively. On the other hand, in the Center and Tagus Valley regions, registered unemployment rose 4.4% compared to that recorded a year ago.
