According to an analysis released by the human resources company Randstad, the average salary rose 4.9% until September, compared to the same period last year, remaining just below 1,400 euros gross per month.

“The remuneration of Portuguese workers increased by 4.9%, compared to the same period last year, reaching an average value of 1,398.17 euros in September 2024”, highlights Randstad.

“Unsurprisingly, Lisbon is the district where salaries are highest (1,616 euros), followed by Setúbal and Porto (1,457 euros and 1,412 euros, respectively)”, adds the human resources company, which highlights that these three districts are the only ones whose average salaries exceed the national trend.

In contrast, it is in Beja that salaries are lowest, with the monthly average reaching 1,111 euros gross in the third quarter.

As for employment, the third quarter was synonymous with a new increase in the number of people working in Portugal, surpassing the mark of 5.14 million individuals.

Still, it is important to note that around three in ten of the people employed in Portugal (32.5%) have a low level of qualification (at most, secondary education), a share that is double the European Union average, notes Randstad.

“The analysis we carried out at Randstad Research allowed us to prove that we are experiencing a stable economic climate, which, in general, is very favourable to employment. On the one hand, there is a historic increase in the number of people employed, on the other hand, salaries are on a growth trajectory”, said Isabel Roseiro, marketing director at Randstad Portugal.
