Whale sightings

Once nearly extinct due to whaling, their population has recovered extensively over the past half a century, estimated to be around 84,000 individuals globally.

Whales have been observed along the South Coast from Hastings to Beachy Head and beyond, on various dates since December 14th.

Scientists have begun to research the reasons for their population recovery, which could include shifting migration routes and climate change.
