“It is estimated that in 2024 blueberry cultivation will occupy around 3 thousand hectares in Portugal. It has grown year after year, because in 2010, the year in which blueberry cultivation began to become more professional, we had only 43 hectares”, said Gonçalo Bernardo, from ANPM.
Speaking to Lusa, Gonçalo Bernardo said that data on blueberry production in Portugal in 2024, when the number of producers was approaching 1,500, will be known in the coming weeks.
“The known data is from 2023, in which production was close to 21 thousand tons, in an area of 2,627 hectares throughout the country. In 2022, the value of exports was 38 million euros”, he indicated.
ANPM is a non-profit association whose mission is to contribute to the organisation of the production chain and defend the interests of blueberry producers.
Its main objectives are to promote Portuguese blueberries, in Portugal and abroad, encouraging daily consumption of fruit and the adoption of healthy eating habits.
