The increase in the indicator, although 1.1 percentage points lower than that observed in December, is mainly influenced by the increase in labour costs, being the lowest since March last year.
According to data released by the statistics office, labour costs rose 6.9% year-on-year, 1.8 percentage points less than in the last month of 2024. The price of materials rose 0.2% in January, after a 0.6% increase in December.
The cost of labour contributed three percentage points (3.9 percentage points in the previous month) to the formation of the annual variation rate of the New Home Construction Cost Index and materials contributed 0.1 percentage points (0.3 percentage points in December), details the IBGE.
Bitumen and ready-mix concrete were the materials that contributed most positively to the aggregate price variation, registering increases of close to 10% in the month under analysis.
In the opposite direction, the IBGE highlights wood and derivatives, glass and mirrors and sanitary ware, which saw a drop of over 10%, and steel and cast iron pipes and plumbing equipment and mild and galvanized steel sheets, with reductions of around 10%.
Regarding the chain variation, the monthly variation rate of the index was 0.8% in January, seven tenths above that recorded in the previous month, with the cost of materials increasing by 0.6% and that of labour by 1%.
