In a statement, the Cascais City Council (CMC) said that demolition work on the shopping centre will begin on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the city hall, a project for residential and commercial areas designed by London architect Norman Foster will be built on the site where the building is currently located, using recycled materials from CascaisVilla.

According to what was presented at an extraordinary meeting of the Chamber, in July 2024, by vice-president Nuno Piteira Lopes, the proposal for the site “will not be a single, compact building, but divided into two structures separated by a large pedestrian area”, aligned “with the existing tunnel on Avenida D. Pedro, which was recently requalified”.

“The area where this Norman Foster project will be built was recently the site of the new Cascais Bus Terminal, alongside a major change in road traffic, which has allowed for greater fluidity in traffic at the eastern entrance to the town,” Cascais City Council (CMC) also indicated.

CascaisVilla opened in 2001 and is located at the eastern entrance to Cascais, the main gateway to the village.

“It should be noted that this was a demolition that had long been desired by a large part of the population of Cascais,” highlighted the city government.
