The idea, according to the president of the Câmara de Braga, is for the accommodations to also be a “training space” to give the tools for “career development and professional placement.”

The municipal housing company of Braga launched a public tender for the transformation of the old primary school of Celerós into a migrant reception centre at a value of €1.4 million. This way, they will be able to accommodate new immigrants in hopes of combatting issues with recruitment of new labour workers for the fabric business. They would also ensure that the immigrant population is not “subjected to undignified situations”.

Additionally, the centre would serve as a “training space” to give the tools needed for “career development and professional placement”. It is predicted that they will be able to build 16 new accommodations, and the investment is being supported wholly by funds from Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência.

Proposals can be presented until 19 April, according to BragaHabit, and the execution period is 300 days starting from the date of contract award.
