“In-depth renovation works at PGA Aroeira No.2 will begin in June, following the completion of the significant modernisation that took place at PGA Aroeira No.1 in October 2024,” reads a press release.
Among the planned changes, the course, which was designed by Donald Steel, will undergo “important improvements in terms of maintenance and quality of essential infrastructure, including the renovation of all tee boxes and bunkers”, with interventions also planned “on the fairways and greens, as well as on the general landscaping and on the five characteristic lakes of the course, with the aim of consolidating the status of PGA Aroeira No.2 as one of the best golf experiences in Portugal”.
Buggy paths and bridges across the course will also be improved, in keeping with Donald Steel’s original vision, and the physical specifications of the course will remain unchanged.
“Following the huge success of the renovation of Aroeira No. 1 last year, the plan has always been to focus our attention on transforming PGA Aroeira No. 2 in 2025. The PGA National brand is recognized worldwide for quality on and off the course, and the PGA Aroeira Lisboa team has been working hard to renew, improve and elevate every aspect of the experience. The renovation of the Donald Steel-designed course is a key part of this process,” said Nuno Sepulveda, co-CEO of Detalhes – Sports, Hospitality, Leisure, the management company of PGA Aroeira Lisboa.
The renovation comes after the completion of major renovations at PGA Aroeira No. 1, a golf course that was previously called Aroeira Pines Classic and whose renovation also focused on sustainability.
“Underscoring the resort’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, state-of-the-art irrigation systems and hot-weather Bermuda grass are being implemented throughout the 36-hole complex, with the goal of dramatically reducing water consumption,” the release further said.
