The historic record for passengers in transit was also broken at the Port of Lisbon, with 68,668 passengers, surpassing the 65,841 registered in April 2019, representing, in this analysis with the same month in 2024, an increase of 35%.
As far as cruise ship calls go, April 2025 saw 55 stopovers, the highest number ever for this month. This growth represents an 8% increase compared to April 2024. The previous record, of 54 stopovers, dated back to 2023.
During the month of April, five ships made their first stopover in Lisbon. They were Caledonian Sky (from the operator TravelMarvel also debuting in Lisbon), MSC Seaside, Ocean Albatros (from the operator Albatros Expeditions also debuting in Lisbon), Volendam and Mein Schiff Relax.
For Carlos Correia, president of the Port of Lisbon Administration (APL), “the April results are a clear reflection of the growing attractiveness of the Port of Lisbon in the cruise sector and the ongoing work in partnership with operators and agents in the sector. It is with great satisfaction that we see successive records being broken, but it is equally important that this growth is based on innovation, sustainability and the valorization of the Lisbon destination”.
Carlos Correia also emphasizes that “the arrival of ships like the Mein Schiff Relax shows that we are attracting operators who share our vision of a more responsible and sustainable sector. The future of the Port of Lisbon is based on these principles.”
