“It was good to see the sale and purchase agreement and to know more details in the coming weeks”, Margrethe Verstagher said at a press conference.
The commissioner added that it was “very positive that this long saga – which began with Banco Espírito Santo [BES] needing assistance, passing through the temporary solution of Novo Banco and the agreements and commitments the Portuguese government assumed to sell it, leaving a trail since 2014 – is finally coming to an end”.
The sale of Novo Banco to the US investment fund, Lone Star, was announced last week.
