Since then we have been joined by Dra. Joana Cesário, who is rapidly building her own reputation for gentleness and her passion for perfection in dentistry. She, like Dr. John is keen to establish her practice on ethical grounds. They both report seeing patients who have had elaborate and expensive treatment plans recommended – often which the patients cannot afford – but Dra. Joana and Dr. John find to be unnecessarily drastic. The plans often involve removing healthy, solid teeth to place implants. Often no alternative options are even suggested.
At Clinica Pacifico the policy is always to give correct and honest advice to patients- their reputation depends on this – which is why they develop a growing and very loyal, client base.
One of the more popular options, if teeth do need replacing, is to provide the new type of Nylon / Polymer based dentures- which would be more acurately termed “Removable Bridges” as these can be worn all the time, but only removed for cleaning them and the adjacent natural teeth. These are held in place by gum- coloured flexible clasps, which hold the prosthetic teeth in place firmly but gently, and being more elastic than metal, retain that firmness. Also, no ugly metal showing.
Neither Dra. Joana nor Dr. John find it necessary to undertake crowning so often as used to be the case. Modern tooth coloured composite restorative materials are now so good, they can often be used to rebuild entire teeth. Although a crown (Ceramic with metal, or all ceramic) is stronger, the cutting back of the tooth is much more destructive, which weakens the core of the tooth. Again, the composite option involves just a single visit and the appearance looks more natural, as well as being much less expensive.
Recently, Dra. Veronica has started a post-graduate course in Orthodontics, so, for the time being, is not available for consultations, but patients can be assured Dra. Joana and Dr. John will take good care of them.
