Susana Barbosa, professor at the Scientific Technical Unit of Special Education and Inclusion, said “being a LPG is today indispensible to the promotion of communication among deaf and hearing people.
“It is increasingly important that this profession is identified given its importance in current global society where it acts as a mediator of communication.”
The event will bring together sign language interpreters and researchers who will share studies, research and general knowledge generated in Portugal which have contributed to the growth of this scientific and professional category.
Sign language students will also be taking part in the congress, which has a programme that includes debates, workshops and plays.
