An executive order signed by US President, Donald Trump, on Friday just after 5 pm local time (10 pm in Lisbon) bans refugees from entering the US for 120 days, as well as all citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries (Syria, Sudan, Lybia, Iran, Iraq, Somalia and Yemen) for 90 days.

“The Portuguese government is very concerned,” about the measures imposed by the new US administration, the Portuguese Foreign Affairs minister, Augusto Santos Silva, told Lusa adding that Portugal and the European Union have “a very different visa policy,” from the decisions made by President Trump.

The Portuguese Minister said, “it is inconceivable to deny the right of entry to people who have a residency permit for the country.”

“In European terms it is absolutely illegal,” he noted.

Over the weekend 109 people were detained at the US border and around 200 were prevented from flying to the US, following Trump’s executive order.
