According to the APAV statistics included in its 2016 Annual Report, the association provided assistance to 5,226 women (100 per week on average), 1,009 elderly people (19 per week), 826 children and young people (16 per week) and 826 men (16 per week), according to the APAV 2016 annual report.
In 2016, APAV provided assistance 35,411 times, a figure which has increased by 8.1 percent over the last three years (32,770 in 2014 and 34,327 in 2015).
Of the 12,450 people registered by APAV in 2016, 9,347 were victims of crime, of which 7,654 were women (81.9 percent), aged between 25 and 54 (40.6 percent) and lived in a family with children (35 percent).
Of the victims that reported their marital status, 28.6 percent were married and 21.1 percent were single. The figures point to more than a third being part of a nuclear family with children while 11.5 percent were single parent families.
In terms of the relationship between the victim and the perpetrator, they are mainly partners, former partners, boyfriends or ex boyfriends, accounting for 59 percent of all the cases.
