It is from its headquarters in Guimarães, where Kiwi GreenSun began its activities, that Portuguese kiwis have been distributed, since 2012, through more than 600 Mercadona stores, first in Spain and then also in Portugal. In the last five years, Mercadona has doubled its purchases. In 2019, it purchased 2,500 tons and, in 2023, 5,000, which represents a growth of 100%.

Along with Mercadona, Kiwi Greensun has also grown and modernized its business. “It has been a healthy relationship, which has been growing. They are a very demanding customer in terms of fruit quality and we have been able to meet their expectations and have grown a lot” says Vitor Araújo, Director of Kiwi GreenSun.

Pedro Barraco, Mercadona Agro-Food Chain Director, states that “over the last few years we have been developing strategic partnerships based on commitment with Portuguese suppliers, as is the case with Kiwi Greensun. Mercadona has grown in the number of stores at an Iberian level and as a result of the stability with Kiwi Greensun, it has increased its agricultural production area and industrial capacity, thus generating a positive contribution to the national and local economy”.

To meet this growth in a sustainable way, Kiwi GreenSun has invested in improvements in its factory, namely with the construction of two new stores, the modernization of its production lines and the installation of solar panels, which allow it to achieve energy autonomy between May and September.
