The airport which is being planned by the Barraqueiro
transport company for the Santarém region could be completed within three to
six years, reports Público.
The infrastructure would have a runway and capacity for ten million
passengers per year, representing a cost of around €1 billion, financed by
airport fees. It would be a regional airport that would also serve the Centre
region.
There is another scenario on the table, which depends on the
evolution of demand: evolving to three parallel runways, providing Lisbon
airport with a capacity for 100 million passengers per year. In this case, it
would imply an investment of €4.5 billion.
