"In February 2022 a basket of food items cost 184 euros – and although slight declines in the inflation rate are already beginning to be seen, the price of food items continues on an upward path", according to DECO..
On February 23, 2022, the day before the war in Ukraine started, a basket with 63 essential foodstuffs cost 183.63 euros. Now, almost a year later, the same basket costs 228.66 euros, that is, 45.03 euros more (24.52% more).
"This is the highest value since DECO Proteste started monitoring food basket prices, on January 5 last year".
“In a more detailed analysis of the products whose prices increased the most over the last year, DECO Proteste reveals that tomato pulp, carolino rice and horse mackerel were those that saw their prices rise the most. Also registering high price rises were fresh hake, white sugar, extra virgin olive oil, onion and carrot".
However, fish and dairy are the food categories with the highest percentage increases between February 23, 2022 and February 15, 2023.
