In a statement, the GNR clarified that the “RoadPol” inspection operation, carried out between March 6 and 12 throughout the mainland, covered 41,217 drivers and recorded 754 administrative offences.
Incorrect use or absence of seat belts corresponded to 680 of these infractions, while the lack or inappropriate use of seat belts and/or child restraint systems accounted for 74 offenses during the inspection period by soldiers from the Territorial Commands and the National Unity of Transit (UNT).
At the launch of the inspection operation, the GNR explained that the objective of the initiative was to improve road safety and compliance with road regulations. In 2022 some 20,292 violations were verified for lack or incorrect use of seat belts and child restraint systems.
