In a statement, the authorities recall that in Portugal, in 2023, one in four drivers killed in traffic accidents had a blood alcohol level equal to or greater than 0.5 g/l and three in four of these drivers had a rate equal to or greater than 1.2 g/l.
“Of the total number of autopsied victims of traffic accidents, 23% had a blood alcohol level above the legally permitted limit, of which 73% exceeded the level considered a crime (≥1.20 g/l),” the note states.
The campaign, which starts on Tuesday and runs until Monday, includes awareness-raising actions by the ANSR and inspection operations by the GNR and PSP, authorities say.
