The data released by the Directorate-General for Education and Science Statistics (DGEEC) reveals that 80% of the more than two million students enrolled attended public educational establishments.

Almost half of the students (around 930 thousand) were in basic education, from the 1st to the 9th grade, with another 397 thousand in secondary education.

There were just over 259,000 children in preschool education establishments, almost half of the students who were already in higher education that same year (433,000).

There were also 623 children and young people whose families opted for an individual or domestic education model.
