This pilot project aimed to reduce car traffic in bathing areas.
In total, according to CIMAL, 2,808 holidaymakers benefited from this pilot project, during weekends, in Odemira, another 1,747 in Grândola, 1,335 in Alcácer do Sal, 1,292 in Sines and 437 in Santiago do Cacém. Still in Grândola, but during the week, “the number of users of the service to the beaches of Melides, Carvalhal and Pego was 6,246, which added to the passengers on Saturdays and Sundays would have totaled 7,993 people”, CIMAL also calculates.
Transport was made available through seven lines to 12 beaches in the five municipalities that make up CIMAL, during weekends of the two months and also during the week in the case of the municipality of Grândola. Among the beaches covered by this CIMAL pilot project are Comporta, Zambujeira do Mar and Vila Nova de Mil Fontes, Lagoa de Santo André and Porto Covo.
In total, the buses mobilized for the pilot project covered 45,274 kilometres.
