Porto and Faro airports were the ones that recorded the highest traffic in Portugal in the first quarter of the year, according to Vinci Airports, concessionaire of ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, revealing that, between January and March, nearly 73 million passengers were registered in the airport infrastructures managed by the company.
“Almost 73 million passengers passed through the airports of the VINCI Airports network in the first quarter of 2025, 4 million more than in 2024 (+6%)”, says a statement from Vinci Airports, which explains that the growth was “mainly driven by Asia and the return of traffic with China to levels above pre-Covid levels”.
Among the highlights are the Portuguese airports managed by Vinci Airports, which showed, in the first three months of 2025 a traffic growth of 2.4%, and, taking into account only the month of March, the increase in traffic was 2.0%.
“In Portugal, Porto and Faro airports recorded high levels of traffic, thanks to increased offers from Ryanair and Transavia,” said Vinci Airports, in a statement.
In the information released, Vinci Airports highlights the “significant increase in traffic in Europe”, mainly “in airports that benefit from the dynamism of low-cost airlines”, as is the case in Portugal.
Sorry, but this story really wasn't clear.
Vinci Airports operates 70 airports in 14 countries. The 73 million in the first quarter is for all these airports, not Portuguse airports.
Lisbon leads Portugal with 35 million passengers per year. Porto averages 15.93 million per year, and Faro 9.83 million. Faro was 9.14 million in 2014, for comparison. Portugal, all airports combined, had 69 million passengers in 2023, or about 17.25 million per quarter, about 22% of Vinci Airports totals.
