The installations with marine themes, are placed in roundabouts in Faro, Albufeira, Quarteira, Olhão, Lagoa, Portimão, and Vila Real de Santo António, and were made from rubbish, much of it collected on the beaches, by students from schools across the Algarve.

The LIXARTE project – transforming waste into art aims to assert itself as an ARTivism and citizen science project and raise awareness, through artistic expression, and of the urgency of protecting the Oceans. This year's edition Lixarte_Rotundas has the artistic coordination of Joana Bandeira Rocha, from Olhão.
