Lisbon is also the most expensive city in Portugal to buy a house. The median cost of housing in the Portuguese capital reached 5,642 euros per square meter (euros/m2) at the end of June, the highest value ever in the idealista series dating back to 2015. Houses for sale in Lisbon are costing twice the national median (2,683 euros/m2).
When analysing the 15 most expensive district capitals to buy a house in Portugal and Spain, the city of Lisbon once again appears in the first place. Data from idealista reveals that house prices in Lisbon are 25% higher than in Madrid (4,514 euros/m2) and 27% higher than the median in Barcelona (4,430 euros/m2), despite both Spanish cities having recorded new price records in June.
Even compared to San Sebastián (5,461 euros/m2) – which is the most expensive municipality to buy a house in Spain, ranking second in this ranking – house prices in the Portuguese capital are 3% higher.
After Lisbon, the highest cost of housing for sale in Portugal is found in Porto (3,578 euros/m2) and Funchal (3,388 euros/m2), which are in 6th and 7th place, respectively. And in this ranking, there are only two other cities in our country: Faro (2,979 euros/m2), which is in 10th place; and Aveiro (2,534 euros/m2), which occupies last place.
Spanish cities dominate the list of the 15 most expensive cities to buy a house in the Iberian Peninsula (there are 10 cities in total, compared to 5 in Portugal). However, Lisbon, Porto, and Funchal still have median house prices for sale that are higher than large cities in neighbouring Spain, such as Bilbao (3,301 euros/m2) and Málaga (3,016 euros/m2).
This arricle os based on a publication made on a economic digital newspaper based on idealista. But it does not show the reality, as the parish of Lisbon is far smaller than the from Madrid. And more expensive areas of Madrid are mor ecpensive than Luxbon as well Barcelona and Szn Sebastian.

The Portuguese Government should be proud for turning Lisbon into the most expensive EU capital and the Portuguese into those EU citizens with the lowest income! Great! Keep going!
