The warnings were expected until 6 pm today and are based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) on the general weather situation (wind and sea) for the archipelago's coastline.

According to the captaincy, the wind will be “very fresh to strong in the south/southwest, gradually becoming moderate to fresh west from the end of the morning and will become calm to moderate north/northwest from the end of the afternoon”.

As for the waves, they will be around two meters in the northern and southern parts of the island.

The captaincy insists on recommendations to the entire maritime community and the general population regarding the precautions to be taken, both when preparing to go to sea and when at sea or in coastal areas.

Reinforcement of mooring and surveillance of moored and anchored vessels, avoidance of walks near the sea or in areas exposed to rough seas, and refraining from recreational fishing, especially near cliffs and cliff areas frequently hit by breaking waves, are some of the indications left in the notice.

All regions of Madeira are under a yellow warning from IPMA due to heavy rain.

This weather situation is also affecting movement at Madeira International Airport, with the official page of ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal indicating the cancellation of four flights from Porto, Lisbon and Porto Santo at 10:00 am today, which also affects the corresponding departures.
