The moment was marked by a special ceremony that was attended by several government officials, among other national and international personalities, and where the Nova Marina was also officially inaugurated.
Nova Marina has three new piers with 68 berths, specifically designed for large vessels, between 20 and 40 metres, strategically positioning Vilamoura at the “forefront of the nautical sector”. Each berth includes advanced technology, with individual pump-out systems, remote water and electricity consumption management services, dedicated charging points for electric boats, cutting-edge desalination systems and photovoltaic energy generation for sustainability.
"We transformed a visionary concept into an attractive destination that represents innovation, sophistication and a deep commitment to nautical excellence. From the beginning, we understood that a marina is not just about vessels, boats and moorings, but also about an experience that unites people and the sea, fostering relationships, and a broader vision of nautical culture”, said Isolete Correia, CEO of Vilamoura Marina and CEO of Vilamoura
From Visionary Concept to Nautical Reference
What began in 1974 as an audacious vision by Artur Cupertino de Miranda has “evolved into the largest and most prestigious marina in Portugal”. Over the years, Vilamoura Marina has been adapting to the reality of the nautical market, expanding its initial 612 mooring posts to 1,000, and adjusting to the current market for large vessels with 825 mooring posts, becoming a tourist reference at a global level. "Over these 50 years, our trajectory symbolises much more than a simple nautical infrastructure. We are, above all, creating a legacy that will define nautical excellence for future generations”, added Isolete Correia.
With several mentions and distinctions, it was consecutively awarded the title of "Best Marina in Portugal" and secured multiple international awards. More recently, the Marina also received the 5 Gold Anchor Platinum certification by The Yacht Harbor Association (TYHA), due to the quality of its infrastructure, as well as the services offered – only 11 marinas worldwide have achieved this certification.
Over the last three years, funds managed by Arrow Global have promoted the growth and development of the region and others in the country. “I feel very proud to be able to say that Arrow has, in some way, almost reconstructed the original vision of Cupertino de Miranda, regrouping assets that have been dispersed over the years.”, said João Bugalho, CEO of Arrow Global Portugal.
