In a statement, Porto City Council congratulates itself on this value, which it also attributes to the efficient management and maintenance of the equipment, carried out by the municipal company Águas e Energia do Porto.

“The expansion of the photovoltaic network was particularly relevant. Buildings such as the Trindade Car Park, the Carvalhido General Workshops, the Firefighters Regiment, the Freixo WWTP and several schools received new units, contributing to a total of 2 megawatt-peak (MWp) of installed power”.

The city government emphasises that “the municipality’s energy development strategy aims not only to increase efficiency in electricity consumption but also to continue reducing greenhouse gas emissions, in line with the objectives of the Climate Pact”.

The Porto City Hall also highlights as “one of the most significant projects” of 2024 the installation of solar panels at the Sobreiras WWTP: “The work has already started operating and is generating clean energy to power the wastewater treatment plant”.

The Sobreiras WWTP has 635 solar panels and a capacity of 387 kWp and “now produces part of its own energy, contributing to the sustainability of operations”.

The estimated production, as stated in the text, is 600 megawatt-hours (MWh) per year, “which represents a saving of around 80 thousand euros per year on the energy bill”.
