Irish interest in Portugal has grown hugely in recent years. Portuguese government figures show a 25% jump in the number of Irish citizens living in Portugal between 2021 and 2022. Meanwhile, the number of overnight stays in Portugal by visitors from Ireland rose by 18% between 2022 and 2024, reaching 2.3 million overnight stays last year. This growing interest in Portugal is fuelling a strong future pipeline of Irish citizens considering a move there.
The Moving to Portugal Show and Seminars exists to serve this growing cohort of individuals considering relocating from Ireland to Portugal. With expert presentations, seminars and panel discussions, along with a carefully curated selection of 12 exhibitors, the free-to-attend event is designed to cover all aspects of making the move. It covers fiscal residency, taxation, pensions, property, and a range of lifestyle matters, from schooling to healthcare.
The Moving to Portugal Show will take place at the Herbert Park Hotel in central Dublin. It follows an exceptional demand for information about starting a new life in Portugal, with the last Dublin show, held in April 2024, attracting more than 500 registrations.
Portuguese Ambassador to Ireland Bernardo Lucena will open the event, which will feature expert sessions run by those already living and working in Portugal. The sessions will cover all aspects of the Portuguese lifestyle, from the opportunities for staying active outdoors to the intricacies of the local property market. Property developers will be present covering the whole of Portugal, from the sun-kissed Algarve and coastal elegance of Comporta to major cities such as Lisbon and Porto. The show will also provide essential information for anyone interested in starting a business in Portugal, whether as a solo venture or by employing a local team.
In addition, the show will be hosting a range of “Irish Success Stories in Portugal” sessions, during which attendees can hear firsthand experiences from those who have successfully moved to – and thrived in – Portugal. These sessions will offer invaluable insights and inspiration regarding how to relocate successfully.
“Portugal holds a special place in the hearts of many visitors. Between its golden beaches, world-class golf courses and delicious seafood, the country cannot fail to make a deep impression on all who visit. It's also a superb choice for those considering moving to the sun full-time, whether with a young family, to start a business or as part of a retirement plan. The Moving to Portugal Show will provide extensive information on starting a new life in Portugal and how to enjoy a seamless move,” said Christina Hippisley, General Manager of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce.
The Dublin Moving to Portugal Show will run from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm on 22nd May 2025. Organised by the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Ireland Portuguese Business Network, the event offers free attendance, with registration required online in advance at https://Dublin-MTP.eventbrite.co.uk.

I sincerely hope these shows are telling the downsides as well as the hype. The bureaucracy is totally horrendous. Immigration Department is almost useless. Plus, if in a few years you decide to leave, then the capital gains tax is a real killer.
