Colombia’s first offshore wind energy auction has attracted proposals from global companies to develop 69 offshore areas, a big step towards reducing reliance on oil and coal.

This auction aligns with President Gustavo Petro’s push for energy diversification, including interested firms from Belgium, Britain, China, Spain, and state-run Ecopetrol.
The Colombian government aims to award projects that can lead to a minimum installed capacity of power generation of 1 gigawatt from the auction, with each project requiring a minimum installed capacity of 200 megawatts.
