According to Sul Informação, Inspired by the stories of smuggling that marked the identity of this region, the festival offers a diverse programme that combines street theater, musical performances, crafts, gastronomy and interactive shows as well as free entry.
With an appeal for public participation, every corner of the town comes to life with giant puppets, music and performances that transport visitors to a time when survival shaped the daily lives of the riverside populations.
The connection between past and present also emerges through gastronomy, where the typical flavors of the border invite you on a journey through the palates of the border.
One of the most anticipated moments will be the pedestrian crossing of the Guadiana River, a unique opportunity to cross on foot, the line that separates Portugal and Spain, experiencing first hand the excitement of those who, in the past, braved the waters in the dead of night.
How wonderful sadly we won’t be able to attend this year as we are in the UK but be sure for any future event we will organise ourselves to be in Our home in Ferragudo and ready to cross the border on that Wobbly pontoon. To gain a Smugglers Badge is now in my bucket list . Have a great festival and good luck Grant
