According to the data presented, registered crime in Lisbon fell by 7.6% in the last year, a decrease equivalent to 6,724 fewer criminal reports. However, serious crimes, such as robberies, increased significantly in districts such as Santarém (+33.3%), Castelo Branco (+30.5%) and Portalegre (+30.4%).
At a national level, the total number of criminal reports fell by 4.6% compared to the previous year, falling from 371,995 to 354,878 occurrences, according to figures consulted by Público and cited by Executive Digest.
Among the offences that fell the most were road traffic crimes. The number of drivers caught with an alcohol level equal to or greater than 1.2 grams per litre of blood fell by 23%, with 5,585 fewer cases recorded. In addition, driving without a licence saw a significant reduction of 28%.
Strange how the crime rate drops when the police are on strike! And things improve in places where many don't bother to report crimes because they don't trust that anything will happen...
