According to Jornal Económico, Primark will open its new store at the Espaço Guimarães Shopping Centre on 9 May. The brand’s 12th store in Portugal and the second of four new stores announced in the first half of 2024 – an investment of 40 million euros in the national market.

“The new store will create more than 100 jobs, increasing the number of Primark employees in Portugal to 1,800”, says the brand in a statement. With more than 2,860m2 of commercial space, the new store includes 13 fitting rooms and 17 payment checkouts in total, of which six are self-checkouts.

Nelson Ribeiro, Head of Sales at Primark Portugal, says, quoted in the press release, that “this opening marks another important step in our expansion across the country, reinforcing our long-term commitment to bringing affordable fashion to more customers in Portugal”.

Angélica Falagán, Director of the Espaço Guimarães Shopping Centre, also said, quoted in the press release: “The opening of Primark is undoubtedly a milestone for the centre and reinforces our commitment to our customers, offering them an increasingly complete shopping experience. We are very pleased to welcome Primark and would like to thank them for the trust placed in Espaço Guimarães.”

In June last year, the statement specifies, Primark announced an investment of more than 40 million euros in the Portuguese market, with the opening of four new stores in four different cities and the extension of the Primark Colombo store in Lisbon. Primark Montijo was the first store to open following this announcement, with Guimarães being the second location, followed by Viseu and Covilhã next year.

With this investment, Primark Portugal now has 14 stores, increasing its commercial space by more than 30 percent and creating more than 500 new jobs throughout the country. In addition, Primark is also focused on remodeling some of its current stores, such as Sintra and Portimão, with others planned by the end of the year.
