According to a Eurobarometer, 42% of EU citizens interviewed consider it essential that cultural workers and artists receive more for their work and have better working conditions.

Almost the same percentage (43%) of European citizens are concerned about protecting cultural heritage, which can be destroyed by conflicts, natural disasters and climate change, while 45% consider it essential to make culture more accessible.

The Eurobarometer also reports that eight out of ten citizens of EU countries “prefer content created by humans rather than by artificial intelligence” and expressed “concern about the possible consequences for artists’ salaries” resulting from the creation of art by generative artificial intelligence.

In the survey, 49% of people responded that they had been involved in artistic activities in the last 12 months, even though the Eurobarometer does not specify what is understood by artistic activities.

Portugal and Finland are the countries where it is most believed that artistic freedom is respected, 92% believe that any artist can express themselves without any fear of censorship of their art by national authorities or other groups.

The percentage at the EU level is 77%.
