The party leader, who was again removed from the campaign today, minutes after participating in an event in Odemira, in the district of Beja, due to an illness, and was taken to the health center in this Alentejo town.
A source from Civil Protection and also a hospital source contacted by Lusa confirmed that André Ventura is heading to HLA, located in Vila Nova d Santo André, in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém, travelling in the ambulance with a “doctor and nurse”.
André Ventura arrived today about fifteen minutes after the start of the march in Odemira, gave statements to journalists and walked a few meters during that campaign.
A few minutes later, he appeared to be feeling unwell and was taken away from the action by members of the party team into the car he had been using in this electoral campaign for the early legislative elections of May 18.
As the short motorcade of around 50 supporters was coming to an end, he grabbed his chest and neck and loosened his tie, which caught the attention of those around him, and said: “Let’s keep going.”
Immediately afterwards, he began to bend down and was supported and taken into the car by his security guards.
He was later taken to a more protected area, a few metres away, on the other side of the street, inside a cafe, where, between around 12:05 and 12:18 he was treated, and two ambulances were at the scene.
At 12:18 he was transported by ambulance to the Odemira health center.
