Lisbon City Council has selected Francisco Menezes and Rafael Pires as winners of the 2025 edition of the Lisbon-Budapest artistic exchange program in Visual/Plastic Arts.
In a statement, the municipal directorate of Culture of the Lisbon city council revealed that it annually selects two artists for two artistic residencies in the capital of Hungary, under the twinning agreement between the two cities.
The jury considered that the proposals of the two artists “are those that fit best into the logic of contemporary artistic creation, which we intend to privilege in this program, highlighting the potential for development and deepening in Budapest, and the relevant impacts enhanced by the residency in their artistic careers.”
Rafael Pires, a visual artist whose work consists of photographs, video performances and installations that raise questions around mobility in the built landscape, will be in artistic residency in the Hungarian city in June, followed in July by Francisco Menezes, a multidisciplinary artist who studied photography at Ar.Co and graduated in sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon.
