According to Mayor José Carlos Rolo, this is one of the most fun sporting events of the year, attracting nearly 500 participants from Albufeira and across the Algarve, spanning all age groups. The event not only encourages physical exercise but also fosters strong community bonds, making it a well-established fixture both sportingly and socially.

The Night Run is organised by the Clube Desportivo de Areias de São João, with the ongoing support of Albufeira Municipality. Registration remains open online or on the day itself. This year, two routes are offered: a longer 10 km run and a shorter 6 km walk, catering to different fitness levels.

Participants are also invited to contribute to a local social cause, with donations supporting C.A.S.A. – the Centre for Support to the Homeless in Albufeira.

Vice-mayor Cristiano Cabrita highlights the exceptional enthusiasm from local residents, businesses, and spectators who cheer on runners throughout the course. He notes that the event truly reflects Albufeira’s commitment to ‘sport for all’ as it prepares to be the European City of Sport in 2026.

Additionally, the organising club runs the “Friday Running Movement” programme, aimed at encouraging residents to be active regularly while exploring the streets of Albufeira, supporting a healthier lifestyle for the whole community.
