Using native species to recreate ecosystems and combat deforestation, micro-forests can be created on sites as small as nine square metres, grow 10 times faster than monoculture forests, and become self-sustaining after just three to five years.

The method was invented in the 1970s by Japanese botanist and plant ecology expert Professor Akira Miyawaki and is now used in over 280 sites worldwide.
