Currently, the law determines that for five years people who go into insolvency are limited in their financial life, a period now reduced to three years, after which the period of assignment of disposable income ends, freeing themselves from the remaining debts.
"If the debtor is an individual, they may be granted the exemption of claims on insolvency that are not fully paid in the insolvency process or in the three years after its closure", reads the law published in Diário da República.
In addition to this reduction in the period, the possibility of seizure or sale of assets is also foreseen at the end of the liquidation of the debtor's assets and after the insolvency process is closed, with a view to delivering the value of the assets to the creditors.
