According to information released by the airline, the Tangier base, which began operating in May, has two aircraft based and a total of 25 routes, including 13 new air connections, one of which is to Lisbon and the other to Porto.
The statement released by Ryanair highlights that the new base in Tangier resulted from an investment of around 200 million euros and will provide flights to eight new European cities and five new Moroccan destinations, starting in the summer of 2024.
Ryanair also highlights that the new base in Tangier will create 600 new local jobs, including 60 for pilots and cabin crew, increasing capacity in the Moroccan city by 70%.
“Ryanair’s investment in Morocco now exceeds more than $1.4 billion in aircraft – supporting more than 5,000 direct and indirect jobs and delivering economic growth in 12 cities, including Rabat, Marrakech, Fez, Agadir, Tetouan, Essaouira and Nador”, reads the information released by the airline.
According to Eddie Wilson, CEO of Ryanair, with the opening of the new base in Tangier, Ryanair will operate more than 170 routes in Morocco, in an offer that has low fares and which, the official hopes, should contribute to boosting “tourism and air connectivity in the country.
“We hope to continue supporting Morocco's economy, as well as regional and international connectivity, positioning Tangier as a leading summer destination with its museums, medina, souq, and, of course, its beautiful beaches”, adds the official.
